Job Summary
Serve as the center receptionist, which includes answering phones, taking messages, greeting and assisting students and other visitors as they enter the office.
Create a welcoming environment for visitors.
Participate in a mandatory training at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Assist staff with connecting students (in distress, with concerns and seeking basic needs) with appropriate services.
Provide accurate information in-person and via phone/email.
Provide office support including typing, data entry, filing, preparing and/or hanging flyers or bulletin boards, and other support as needed.
Assure that the desk area, Career Closet, hygiene product cabinets, and the center are in order.
Support the Basic Needs Services social media accounts with other student assistants and Basic Needs Services professional staff, which includes creating University appropriate social media content, including graphics and images and captions to be posted, and maintaining a robust presence on social media:
Assist with creating content
Assist with reviewing analytics to assess success and recommend improvements
Assist with developing strategies to increase followership and engagement
Assist with maintaining a regular posting schedule
Assist with monitoring comments and direct messages to respond in a timely manner as appropriate or refer to appropriate staff member
Assist with cross-promoting events hosted by other CSUF departments
Assist with collection of donations for hygiene products and gently worn professional attire.
Assist with prescreening for students interested in CalFresh.
Assist with coordination and implementation of CalFresh Outreach and Enrollment Day.
Assist with campus-wide programming efforts related to Basic Needs, including those required by the CSU Office of the Chancellor.
Assist in staffing information tables at resource fairs and other campus events.
Assist with the development of promotional materials.
Must maintain confidentiality at all times; student workers sign a statement regarding confidentiality and complete a Data Security and Privacy training.
Complete mandatory virtual trainings assigned to campus staff
Attend scheduled staff meetings.
Stay connected with events, news, and noteworthy happening on and around campus.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
Current CSUF student enrolled in classes for Fall 2026 and in good academic standing (must have a minimum 2.0 GPA)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to exercise reasonable judgement
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work with confidential information
Ability to work well as a part of a team
Ability to relate to and assist all members of our diverse campus community
Exceptional customer service skills including telephone and in-person reception
Experience with typing, photocopying, data entry, filing
Ability to learn and adhere to university brand standards and divisional marketing practices.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and general internet use
Prior office experience is preferred
Required Qualifications
Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
Undergraduate student applicants only
Required to complete and attend all scheduled trainings during the summer and winter break
Training time is paid
