Position Summary:      

Yeshiva University is in search of a Dean for the Azrieli School.

Position Responsibilities:

The Dean is responsible for the management of Azrieli, academically, fiscally, and administratively. The Dean will articulate and execute a sustainable vision for graduate study of Jewish education, develop new academic programs where appropriate, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community leaders to advance YU’s mission. The Dean will play a critical role in budget planning, fundraising, resource development, and assessment of student learning.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean oversees an associate dean, an academic administrator, directors of masters’ and the doctoral program, and other staff and faculty. In shaping the next chapter of Azrieli, the Dean will respond to present and emerging trends and best practices in the field of Jewish education and ensure that future educators and school administrators receive the training to develop the skills needed to educate and inspire the coming generation of students.

The Dean will maintain, network, and develop new relationships with professional constituencies in Jewish day schools and communal Jewish education agencies to support research, curricula, consultation, policies, and other areas of mutual interest. The Dean will increase enrollment and grow the reputation of Azrieli nationally and internationally.

Experience & Educational Background:

Candidates should have a doctorate and a distinguished record of at least eight years in academic leadership positions and research or scholarly accomplishments commensurate with the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor. Candidates should also have experience and knowledge of the K-12 Jewish day school landscape, preferentially as a former day school educator or administrator, and the capacity to mentor faculty.

Skills & Competencies:

The Dean should have superb interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to Torah values and higher education. Successful candidates will demonstrate deep dedication to and appreciation for the mission and vision of Azrieli and YU, have familiarity with issues in higher education and knowledge of the Modern Orthodox world, and create a strategic plan for Azrieli’s future. Candidates will have proven success in developing an institution and new academic programs, a commitment to the liberal arts and sciences and to the production of research. Every candidate should have significant financial management and fundraising abilities and serve as a strong and effective ambassador and advocate for Azrieli.
