Job Description

Full-time on-campus position in Virginia Tech’s Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation focused on managing multiple externally-funded nationwide agroforestry engagement and research projects, as well as national-level forest management training supervised by Dr. John Munsell. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of faculty, post-doctoral associates, and graduate students and liaise with external project partners from across the country. Travel two to three days per month is expected.
Position responsibilities include: 1) leading multiple large-scale national and regional agroforestry producer funding application programs involving management of applicant inquiries, application review, project quality assessment, awardee assistance, and select special on-farm research and engagement initiatives; 2) coordinating outreach, education, and training in support of national and regional initiatives; 3) managing project work-flows, internal and external communication, logistics, as well as reporting and financial tracking; 4) assisting with proposal development and additional program support as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in a technical physical and natural design field
• Advanced studies in agroforestry
• Demonstrated executive and proven applied leadership skills in a large organization
• Experience with ongoing agroforestry funding and research projects
• Verified agroforestry program management experience
• Understanding of physical and natural complexity and agroforestry design applications
• Established physical and natural resources design and management skills
• Strong communication and executive-level management competencies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience organizing large projects and training
• Farm and infrastructure design and management experience
• Proof of advanced executive leadership and unit supervision within a highly-respected and well-established large organization
• Experience managing ongoing Agroforestry funding programs and unit capacity building
• Advanced training in complex physical and natural built project design and engineering
• Proof of advanced executive leadership and unit supervision within a highly-respected and well-established large organization
• Experience managing ongoing agroforestry funding programs and unit capacity building
• Advanced training in complex physical and natural built project design and engineering
• Bachelor of Science in a technical field focused on physical and natural built environments
• Completed or ongoing advanced degree in agroforestry
