The Research Scientist will serve as a member of the Seafood Economic Analysis and Marketing Research (SEAMaR) team at the Virginia Seafood AREC (VSAREC). The Research Scientist will be responsible for the development and compilation of datasets focused on the U.S. seafood sector (fisheries and aquaculture). Quantitative analysis will include key sectors of U.S. aquaculture (catfish, trout, oysters, etc), in addition to emerging sectors, such as marine finfish. The Research Scientist will be responsible for project management and reporting on project activities to supervisors and project sponsors. The position is expected to lead the preparation of deliverables (presentations, reports, peer review manuscripts), participate in outreach activities, and the dissemination of deliverables to stakeholders. The position will work with other members of the SEAMaR team and a national network of collaborators to develop new tools and analysis for U.S. aquaculture. This is a one-year funded position, with extension contingent upon additional grant funding.
• Doctoral degree in agricultural or applied economics or related field.
• Demonstrated experience with generating data (surveys, web scraping, etc.).
• Demonstrated experience with econometric analysis of data.
• Demonstrated experience with enterprise budgets and financial statements.
• Demonstrated record of publication.
• Must already be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Demonstrated knowledge and research experience in fisheries or aquaculture.
• Demonstrated knowledge or experience of seafood supply chains.
• Demonstrated knowledge or experience of analytical methods such as technical efficiency analysis, risk modelling, economic impact analysis.
• Demonstrated knowledge or experience working with retail level scanner datasets and/or
household consumption datasets.
• Experience using analytical software packages (Stata, R, SAS, nGene, SPSS, or similar).
• Demonstrated experience with project management.
