Job Description

The College of Science at Virginia Tech invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position at the rank of Instructor, starting in August 2025. This position supports the Integrated Health Sciences and Research (IHSR) Program (https://hst.vt.edu/campus/IHSR.html), an undergraduate biomedical education track designed for rising sophomores pursuing careers in biomedical research and health professions. The IHSR program is part of a larger coordinated education and research initiative on the Virginia Tech Health Sciences and Technology Campus in Roanoke, VA, and is closely integrated with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC (FBRI) (https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/).

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering experiential learning and undergraduate courses focused on biomedical and health sciences. This position also includes administrative responsibilities related to program coordination and student engagement.

Primary Responsibilities for this position include:

• Teaching core and elective courses in biomedical sciences and the IHSR curriculum, which may include topics such as molecular biology, infectious diseases, immunology, cell biology, physiology, and neurobiology. Courses also emphasize scientific communication, ethics, experimental design, and biostatistics.
• Assisting in coordinating undergraduate research experiences in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Health Sciences and Technology and FBRI faculty.
• Administrative duties will support program tracking and reporting, event planning, and strategic program development.

Required Qualifications

A successful candidate for this position will have a Ph.D. in biological science or neuroscience/neurobiology or related biomedical discipline and will be passionate about teaching undergraduate students in an inclusive and integrated environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Desirable characteristics we seek include (1) a record of pedagogical achievement, creativity, and vision in undergraduate education; (2) leadership skills relevant to instruction and curriculum development; (3) broad training in biomedical sciences, particularly in biological sciences, neuroscience, or related fields; and (4) experience organizing or coordinating undergraduate biomedical-science activities (e.g., outreach workshops, research experiences for undergraduates programs).
