Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Director has overall oversight and responsibility for the administration, integration, operation, security, data acquisition & integrity, and exports & reporting for the Boise State Foundation's technical ecosystem, including the primary CRM system of record and ancillary platforms, software, and infrastructure; reporting, integration, and data visualization tools and the staff supporting these functions. The position focuses on managing the strategy and team responsible for the Foundation's systems infrastructure and usage and ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and information.

A nonprofit Idaho organization, the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to secure philanthropic support for the university by developing and nurturing relationships with our alumni and friends and stewarding gifts made to support Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership, the Boise State University Alumni Association, and the Bronco Athletic Association.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

60% of the time the Director, Advancement Systems & Technology: 

  • Develop annual program plans and provide strategic direction and oversight for the Advancement Systems & Information Delivery team.
  • Gather and prepare documentation outlining the specifications and requirements for reports and business processes using interviews, document analysis, requirement workshops, surveys, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, as well as task and workflow analysis.
  • Develop requirement specifications according to standard templates, using natural language and Structured Query Language (SQL). Oversee the team providing design, query, and presentation aspects of reports, from conception to delivery.
  • Translate requests into accurate reflections of requirements, provide recommendations for solutions, document processes, anticipate needs, work with Data Analysts and Developers to create accurate and detailed reports.
  • Develop data workflow processes and documentation across the Foundation's operations.
  • Conduct systematic reviews of reports/queries performed by Data Analysts and Developers. Testing for accuracy, evaluating quality, and accounting for variation in findings between expected and actual outputs.
  • Facilitate business side end-user requirements gathering and translation for technical resources to ensure a complete understanding of reporting needs and use cases to ensure successful solutions.
  • Serve as a liaison with stakeholders, Advancement Services colleagues, and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) for the business requirements gathering, design, system definition, testing, conversion planning, and interfaces that are part of the enhancements to the Foundation's technical ecosystem.
  • Provide overall subject matter expertise in Advancement Services data operations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Foundation colleagues to improve report service delivery and database functionality. Ensure that challenges, problems, or potential problems with data or systems are communicated quickly and clearly to other team members.
  • Plan, organize, design, and oversee implementation of data acquisition, harvesting, and hygiene practices and projects.
  • Plan, organize, design, oversee implementation of, and evaluate reporting processes and efforts. Work with all staff on reporting needs and ensure availability of a library of reports, queries, dashboards, and other information resources.

35% of the time the Director, Advancement Systems & Technology:

  • Assist the Associate Vice President for Advancement Services to interpret needs, help address and prioritize those needs and assess reporting and fundraising solutions throughout the Foundation's tech ecosystem.
  • Direct Data Analysts on data hygiene projects in the Foundation's CRM platform and create data quality audit reports. Monitor reports and propose corrective actions.

5% of the time the Director, Advancement Systems & Technology:

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of relational databases and how they function within an advancement/ fundraising office environment.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures and experience administering relational databases.
  • Familiarity with the technology marketplace, specifically catering to non-profit advancement and alumni relations activities.
  • Working knowledge and experience using natural language and Structure, Query Language (SQL), and tools similar to SQL Developer, SQL Management Studio, MS Analysis Services, Integration Services, Reporting Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or Computer Science, plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred experience in higher education or non-profit industry in an advancement services/fundraising operations environment.
  • Experience or coursework in project management methodology, database concepts and/or business analysis is a plus.
  • Prior experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT or equivalent CRM platforms preferred.

Salary and Benefits:
