Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position is responsible for managing and overseeing all HR submissions for the Foundation, aligning people-focused initiatives with the Foundation’s vision, mission, and core values. Focused on enhancing the employee experience, this position implements strategies, as established by Foundation leadership, that support employee development, engagement, and overall performance. Working across all levels of the organization, this role works in close partnership with University Human Resources to support consistency across the Foundation and University to ensure alignment with applicable policies and practices.

The position will supervise a pool of student employees and supports employee relations in conjunction with University HR internal policy implementation, and process improvements. Through this work, the Foundation HR Manager promotes consistency, quality, and a positive, high-performing work environment.

Department Overview:

A nonprofit Idaho organization, the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to build relationships and support for the university by developing and nurturing donor-centered relationships and stewarding gifts made in support of Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership, the Boise State University Alumni Association, and the Bronco Athletic Association.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

60% of the time the Foundation HR Manager must:

  • Facilitate recruitment, performance evaluations, employee recognition, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Implement onboarding strategies and programming by leveraging creative solutions and resources to enable a smooth transition from candidate to employee. Identify opportunities and techniques to engage new employees through a division orientation program that will provide practical information and reinforce the Foundation’s mission and values, setting them up for success in their role.
  • Collaborates with division leadership and the university’s Human Resource Services for the review of division job descriptions, salary structure, and leveraging of internal and external talents to address possible talent gaps in the division.
  • Work with the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer and program leaders to implement succession planning and career development programs/training to attract, inspire, engage, and retain talent.
  • Support employees throughout the employee lifecycle by assisting with onboarding, offboarding, and day-to-day HR-related questions.
  • Identify and recommend training needs, and coordinate and support training activities aligned with operational priorities and established Foundation practices.
  • Support quality assurance and compliance by following established internal controls, university policies, and applicable regulations, and by monitoring processes for accuracy and consistency.
  • Serve as a liaison across the Foundation by working with managers and campus partners, supporting communication, training new employees as needed, and tracking operational metrics related to HR support and service delivery.

40% of the time the Foundation HR Manager must:

  • Supervise a pool of student employees, including hiring, training, scheduling, and deploying student support across the Foundation in response to operational needs.
  • Implement best practices, leverage analytics, and digital solutions to provide guidance to leadership with strategies for retention, culture change, and other relevant factors impacting employee engagement.
  • Prepare summaries or reports to support leadership decision-making and operational planning.
  • Maintain accurate records in alignment with university systems and Foundation practices.
  • Track and monitor HR-related metrics such as onboarding progress, position activity, student deployment, and service response times.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in processes, and procedures, and provide recommendations to Foundation leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Use reason and de-escalation skills to manage difficult or emotional situations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employees, management, partners, colleagues, and community members at all levels of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 5 years experience in similar work.

Salary and Benefits:
