Department Overview:

The Student Communications and Marketing team works with campus partners to ensure all students know the opportunities and resources available to them before and during their time at Boise State. Our goal is to help all Broncos have an exceptional Boise State experience.

Job Summary/Purpose:

As a recognized communications expert, the senior communications specialist helps shape content marketing strategies, making data-informed decisions on topics, channels and general execution of communications and marketing campaigns. Work with campus partners to identify needs and scope required for developing media and communications for websites, social media channels, print, audio, photography, presentations, digital signage etc.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of varied scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead the development of strategic approaches to communication plans and branding strategies that are tailored to the specific department’s goals.
  • Develop timelines to ensure publishing of media is completed as required and the content and delivery is appropriately planned for the target audience.
  • Drive innovations and enhancements to employee communications, programs and platforms
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders, functional leads, and project managers to develop training and resource material and/or sessions for media software, process workflows, and other assigned subject matter.
  • Regularly contributes to the development of new practices, techniques, and standards and is recognized as a communications expert.
  • Create, coordinate, and implement all strategic communications plans for multiple audiences including but not limited to traditional and non-traditional-aged students, transfer students, first-generation students, and parents/families.
  • Plan and coordinate topic specific communication pieces that are relevant at important points in the student lifecycle. Determine appropriate messages, channels, timing, and audience factors to help drive desired actions.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across multiple channels by enhancing and reinforcing brand positioning and voice.
  • Identify new innovative ideas and industry trends regarding content marketing and student communication.
  • Partner with communicators within the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and the Office of Communications and Marketing to align and optimize communication to student and parent audiences.
  • In concert with the Digital Marketing Specialist, use available analytics to strategically enhance the effectiveness of outreach and communication efforts.
  • Conceptualize and write clear, engaging, and grammatically correct messaging for a variety of media including print collateral, web pages, emails, social media posts, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Strong verbal, written, organization and presentation skills
  • Ability to provide creative solutions to problems
  • Excellent project management skills; strong eye and editing skills; attention to detail
  • Knowledge of developing training materials and training sessions for system or project implementations
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree or equivalent relevant experience plus 5 years experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead a team; comfort with recruiting and managing student employees
  • Strong eye and editing skills; attention to detail
  • Familiarity with AP style
Salary and Benefits:
Salary for this role starts at $60,673.60 and depends upon experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
