Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications is responsible for assisting with the administrative duties of the athletics department specific to athletic communications and scheduling. The successful candidate will support the entire athletics department, working closely with all department members by providing support to the College’s thirteen varsity teams with regard to statistical record keeping, marketing and promotion of MHC’s student-athletes and athletics programs.


Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Manage office and student staff to support daily athletic communications and events.
2. Manage the athletic communications budget.
3. Responsible for athletic event management including in-game statistics and video streaming.
4. Record and distribute statistical information to the appropriate organizations.
5. Create, write, edit and publish all athletic publications.
6. Manage and update the athletic website.
7. Write, edit, and submit press releases for athletics and athletic events.
8. Manage athletics social media accounts.
9. Create graphics for social media, promotional posters, and banners.

1. Serve as department schedule coordinator for athletic contests.
2. Ensure coaches submit schedules that are complete and in compliance with NCAA and NEWMAC rules and regulations.
3. Communicate with necessary individuals within the Department to ensure resources are provided to contests as scheduled (e.g. facilities).
4. Responsible for scheduling officials for appropriate home contests.
5. Complete the annual NCAA Sport Sponsorship and Demographic Report.

Other Duties
1. Participate on Department and College committees as assigned.
2. Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field and experience within communications/sports information field (graduate assistant positions and internships are acceptable) or a related field. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or other design/video production software required.

Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral and written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and work independently and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree. Knowledge of statistical programs (E.G., Statcrew, Presto stats entry, Genius) preferred. Experience with a website redesign.

License/Certifications: N/A

Compliance Requirements: All department employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Conference and College rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the department are to be reported to the appropriate parties. Annually, each department member must pass the NCAA Division III rules test and complete athletics staff sexual violence prevention training.

Physical Demands: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/ or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Sufficient clarity of speech required includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
Employee speaks with students and other faculty daily by telephone, e-mail, or in person on a daily basis.
Visual Acuity including color, depth perception and field vision.

Working Conditions: Regular evening and weekend hours are involved and the ability to travel is required.
