Your next career opportunity
As a Research Fellow in Sustainable Livestock Production at the University of Melbourne, you'll play a crucial role in validating on-farm adoption of methane reduction strategies for sheep and dairy cattle. You'll have the opportunity to conduct groundbreaking research using advanced technologies to measure enteric methane emissions and contribute to developing practical, effective solutions for emissions reduction in the livestock industry. This position is primarily based at Dookie campus.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct Livestock Feeding Studies: Design and implement feeding trials on commercial farms and in controlled settings to assess methane reduction strategies.
  • Measure Enteric Methane Emissions: Utilise cutting-edge technologies such as GreenFeed and Open Path Laser-FTIR systems to accurately measure emissions in sheep and cattle.
  • Analyse Data and Report Findings: Process and interpret complex data sets, prepare research reports, and contribute to high-impact publications.
  • Collaborate with Industry Partners: Engage with commercial producers and industry stakeholders to foster partnerships and ensure real-world applicability of research outcomes.

You may be a great fit if you:

You have a PhD (or are near completion) in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or a related discipline, with proven experience in conducting animal feeding trials and measuring greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural systems.

You may also be a great fit if you:

  • Possess outstanding written and oral communication abilities.
  • Have a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrate excellent data analysis and statistical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Show aptitude for engaging with industry partners and stakeholders.
  • Are willing to travel frequently and work occasional non-standard hours.
