The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking an experienced workplace relations professional to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of our Workplace Relations team. Reporting to the Director, Workplace Relations, you will play a pivotal role in resolving disputes, managing grievances, and providing strategic advice to senior management on industrial and employment relations matters.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Provide a first point of contact for university managers and staff for advice on workplace relations matters, assisting the Director, Workplace Relations with the ongoing management of workplace relations cases.
- Take responsibility for particular workplace relations matters, including highly complex issues and specialist negotiations.
- Play a key role in the supporting enterprise bargaining negotiations for the university, with appropriate unions and other stakeholders.
- Represent the university in discussions with unions, enterprise bargaining, and external industrial tribunals.
- Contribute to policy development, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and university objectives.
- Provide leadership to Workplace Relations staff, fostering professional growth and effective dispute resolution.
- Provide workplace relations specialist support/advice for key HR projects.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in industrial and workplace relations, with a strong understanding of organisational change and structure.
- Demonstrated expertise in dispute resolution, negotiation, and handling complex employee relations issues within large, multi-site organisations.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic employee relations policies that balance the interests of the organisation and its workforce.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with staff, senior management, and external partners.
- Superior leadership abilities, with evidence of successful team management and the ability to work autonomously under broad direction.
- Strong analytical skills, with a deep understanding of industrial law and the capacity to interpret agreements, awards, and legislation.
