Fleet & Equipment Manager
Who we are:
When you start to think of waste as a resource, it opens up a world of possibilities. Cleanaway is the largest waste management company in Australia providing sustainable waste management solutions to a range of customers including councils, small businesses, large corporate entities and government agencies to provide sustainable waste management solutions.
Your new role:
We’re looking for a Fleet & Equipment Manager to lead our fleet and equipment strategy that drives operational excellence and long-term improvement. This role goes beyond maintenance—it's about innovation, commercial impact, and embedding data-driven decision-making and safety into everything we do. Oh, and not to mention a fleet size of over 700 and associated workshops!
As part of the leadership team, you’ll take a forward-thinking, commercially minded approach to fleet and equipment management. You will be responsible for driving business unit wide commercial and technical fleet and equipment outcomes to ensure the highest levels of driver, fleet, and equipment safety and compliance (including FRP & COR) and optimised utilisation, reliability and unit costs. You’ll have the influence to lead change, the autonomy to make meaningful improvements, and the opportunity to be part of something bigger—a team redefining the future of our operations and making a sustainable future possible, together.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Fleet & Equipment Strategy: Oversee the maintenance, safety, and operational performance of our fleet and workshops, ensuring they are safe, efficient, reliable, and managed as key business assets. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimise downtime and extend asset life.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Use fleet performance metrics and analytics to identify areas for cost savings, operational efficiency, and risk reduction. Prepare regular reports on fleet performance, maintenance activities, and cost analysis for senior management.
- Leadership & Change Management: Lead and support your team while embedding best practices and continuous improvement in an evolving environment. Keep each other and our community safe by conducting regular safety audits and inspections and addressing issues promptly.
- Equipment & Asset Oversight: Manage a significant number of assets, from heavy vehicles to workshops, and yellow gear, ensuring they align with commercial and operational goals.
- Vendor & Supplier Management: Build and manage relationships with vendors and suppliers, negotiating and managing contracts and service agreements to optimise costs and service quality.
- Collaboration & Communication: Engage across all levels of the organisation, aligning fleet and workshop operations with broader business strategy. Drive positive change by bringing people together to achieve shared goals.
What You Bring:
- Experience in fleet, logistics, or supply chain management.
- A commercial mindset – you understand how to leverage information to drive smarter decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an inclusive, supportive and collaborative approach to leadership
- Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance practices, safety regulations, and National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) and Heavy Vehicle National Law.
- Ability to manage large-scale assets and implement strategic improvements.
- Engineering, project management, or analytics experience – you understand risk, cause and effect, and operational efficiency.
- A proactive, collaborative and adaptable approach to change.
