The Opportunity
Work as part of the broader Sydney Municipal Collections team, covering regions from South Sydney through to the Central Coast. Based at Somersby, you’ll oversee a large heavy-vehicle fleet and lead a skilled team of mechanics, apprentices, and support staff to ensure our assets remain safe, compliant, and ready for daily service. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment, enjoys solving problems, and brings both technical knowledge and strong people leadership.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Oversee day-to-day workshop operations across Somersby & Mt Kuring-gai sites, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance.
- Ensure fleet maintenance, servicing, and repairs are completed on time to support operational requirements.
- Coordinate with third-party providers to minimise downtime and keep fleet availability high.
- Work closely with Operations teams to meet service expectations and collaborate on daily priorities.
- Monitor workshop budgets, consumables, and resource planning.
- Drive training, coaching, and development within the workshop team.
About You
- Proven leadership experience in a workshop within the waste or transport industry is desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to listen, influence, and build rapport.
- A solutions-driven mindset with the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively.
- Understanding of NHVR, CoR, and compliance requirements.
- A mechanical or electrical trade background (highly desirable).
- HR license or willingness to obtain one.
