Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.
Additional Department Summary: Postdoctoral positions are available at The University of Alabama to individuals with research interests. Individuals holding these positions are to conduct research with various faculty members on a variety of projects.
The University of Alabama seeks applications for Postdoctoral positions. Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in a research area or areas covered by the College. The College and or hiring department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in ecology, limnology, fisheries, or a related field by the start date. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Experience conducting fieldwork in streams, experience with sensors and sensor networks, strong communication skills, project management skills, experience working with large datasets, a background in basic ecological principles, familiar with conducting water chemistry, hydrologic, and/or metabolism analyses, excellent computational skills, and the ability to effectively manage large data sets. Creative and independent, have excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, a good publication record in ecology or other related fields, and an interest in working as part of a large collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications: A general interest in freshwater ecology would be advantageous.
