Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm
Job Summary: The Horticulture and Grounds Team Lead performs and leads horticulture and groundskeeping duties at highly visible and frequently visited location(s) on campus. Assists with the planning, installation, and maintenance of seasonal flower beds, ornamental displays, flower pots/planters, hanging baskets, shrubs, turf areas, and specialty landscape features. Oversees watering, pruning, fertilization, mulching, mowing, edging, and line trimming to ensure the grounds are maintained at an exceptionally high level. Assists in monitoring plant and turf health, diagnosing landscape issues, and recommending corrective actions related to irrigation, fertilization, pests, weeds, and disease management. Assists with supervision of groundskeeping employees in the department.
Additional Department Summary: Shifts may exceed 8 hours per day depending on the condition of the grounds and campus event schedules. Performs work at various locations, including events such as football games. Requires overtime, sometimes on short notice.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of horticulture or groundskeeping experience. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry groundskeeping equipment for prolonged periods. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and temperatures.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree or higher. Four (4) years of horticulture experience.
