Kenyon College is seeking applications for a Senior Security Analyst (SSA) in the Information Technology (IT) department of the Library and Information Services division.  This is a full-time, permanent, benefit-eligible position.

About Us:  Join our Team!

Kenyon College, one of the nation’s finest liberal arts colleges, is a small school where academic excellence and a strong sense of community go hand in hand. Kenyon’s beautiful hilltop campus is located in Gambier, OH, 45 miles northeast of Columbus, OH.  Kenyon enrolls 1800 undergraduate students, all of whom live on campus the entire time they are students at Kenyon.

The Information Technology (IT) department is an inclusive group committed to ensuring all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other campus partners have a safe, productive, enjoyable, and meaningful experience with college technology.  We provide creative solutions, responsive services, and reliable, secure access to an enabling infrastructure.  IT is a part of the Library and Information Services division, an encouraging environment where we grow, learn, and pursue our craft. We are helpful, kind, friendly, and respectful of all. We enjoy a sense of humor--something we find essential to our success. We make our work fun whenever possible! Work/life balance is valued here: we love our work but understand that there is more to life. Professional development and diversity are also valued here: we continually learn new skills, grow in our understanding of the world around us, and explore new technologies.

About the Position: Do Work that Matters!

Security and privacy are essential parts of our life and work. Our future depends upon the integration of the needs of modern security with the institution's mission, and the Senior Security Analyst’s work is critical to achieving this future!

The Senior Security Analyst reports to the Director of Strategic Infrastructure and will interact regularly with many departments to support the mission of the College, collaborating extensively with other members of the IT team. The Senior Security Analyst leads the design and implementation of Kenyon’s cybersecurity strategy and policies that both meet the college’s legal and regulatory requirements as well as the ethical responsibilities the college assumes. In this position, you will drive the direction of security for the College.

Our work is fundamentally collaborative, not individualistic. The person in this position works with colleagues across the institution to develop the technical processes and policies necessary to achieve the college’s security goals. This requires engaging with internal team members, the campus community, and vendors to stay informed of current technology needs, to anticipate future needs, and to stay abreast of an ever-changing technology landscape.  If you are interested in a breadth of responsibilities, rarely repeating the same day twice, and working with diverse clients, you will like this position!

IT staff members are encouraged and expected to develop and grow their skills to match the needs of the institution, and to help others grow, too. Recognizing that technology is continually changing, the Senior Security Analyst participates in regular professional development and in the larger professional security community as well.

Minimum Requirements:

We value both education and experience. A successful candidate should be comfortable with technology, be curious, and love to learn. These are the minimum requirements for a successful candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • CISSP or other security professional certifications, either achieved or substantially completed.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

These are the preferred qualifications for a successful candidate:

  • Ten (10) years of professional experience with management, integration, operation, and support of enterprise computing systems, preferably within a higher education environment.
  • Experience with security related tech like SIEM management and analysis, End Point Detection/Response, vulnerability assessment, and threat hunting.

Working Conditions:

Kenyon is an employer that understands the complexity of modern life. Our IT team works flexible hours and can function in a hybrid environment.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salaries at Kenyon are competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition to an attractive salary, Kenyon offers excellent benefits for employees and their family members. Children of employees are eligible for 100% tuition waivers at Kenyon, and through the Great Lakes Colleges Association, children of employees are eligible for 90% tuition waivers at eighteen other of the nation's finest liberal arts colleges. Details about benefits as well as conditions of employment are described more fully in our Staff Handbook.
