Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Associate Director of Athletics. The Associate Director of Athletics serves the Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation in the Division of Student Affairs.  This position reports to the Director of Athletics and supports the mission of the College in its focus on student development, outcomes and success.  This is a twelve (12) month position with benefits that includes morning, evening and weekend responsibilities.

It is also expected that the Associate Director of Athletics will embrace the department mission of fostering learning and developing community with a focus on the values of citizenship, competition, resiliency, sportsmanship, and teamwork within Kenyon’s unique campus culture.  Successful candidates will be able to show a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their support for students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, religious, and national backgrounds.

Essential Functions:

Department Administrator

  • Serve as a member of the department’s administrative team.
  • Provide oversight of assigned sports.
  • Represent department at various campus, community, conference and national meetings.
  • Facilitate athletics department capital projects, renovations, and repairs.

Advancement and Parent & Alumni Engagement

  • In coordination with the Advancement Division, provide oversight and vision in the area of Development and Parent/Alumni Engagement.
  • Create and maintain an integral relationship with the College’s Advancement team.
  • In coordination with the Advancement Division, work with sport coaches on the creation of fundraising initiatives and use of generated funds.
  • Assist in the management and distribution of all Athletics Department endowed funds.
  • Serve as Director of the Kenyon Athletics Network (KAN).
  • Manage Kenyon Athletics Hall of Fame process, including inductions and events.
  • Serve as liaison to Kenyon Career Development Office.

Community Liaison

  • Serve as a point of contact for external relations in the community.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to foster relations and build community through athletics, fitness and recreation programming.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor head coaches in assigned sports and Director of Athletics Communications.

Other Expectations

  • Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness & Recreation team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation at a fully residential campus housing 1800 undergraduate students
  • Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks
  • Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes
  • Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus
  • Assist with special projects and duties, as needed
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College’s and Department of Athletics policies and procedures as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Department of Athletics’ student-athlete handbook, and the Student Affairs and College’s mission statements

Working Conditions 

  • Some heavy lifting / moving equipment is required.
  • Early morning, day, late evenings, weekends, holidays, college breaks and summers are required with the potential for additional travel for athletic contests and convention/caucus attendance.
  • The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years of related collegiate athletics experience.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to establish positive rapport and strong working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni, donors, and community members.
