Job description:

Northside Mental Health Unit is an acute inpatient mental health service located in the Launceston General Hospital. We provide acute inpatient treatment for individuals who require 24-hour specialist mental health care in a safe and supportive environment.  Our team includes medical officers, nursing staff, allied health, health care assistants, lived experience workers and admin staff.

The Team:

Northside Mental Health Unit is an acute inpatient mental health service located in the Launceston General Hospital. We provide acute inpatient treatment for individuals who require 24-hour specialist mental health care in a safe and supportive environment.  Our team includes medical officers, nursing staff, allied health, health care assistants, lived experience workers and admin staff.  

The Role:

As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Allied Health Professional will:

  • Undertake the delivery of quality recovery focussed services to consumers, based on best practice principles and within a recovery framework.  Service delivery is within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework, that includes medical and nursing staff, allied health and those with lived experiences. 
  • Provide a specialist assessment and consumer lead treatment service to consumers during their stay with the inpatient unit. 
  • Support the discharge planning process by offering allied health advice and assistance. 
  • Promote community awareness and build relationships with other mental health service providers to support consumers transitioning from Northside back to the community.
  • Build closer working relationships with other services within Statewide Mental Health Services including Child and Adolescent, Older Persons Mental Health Service, Acute Care Team, Care Coordination Team and other external stakeholders.

You will need:

  • A minimum of two years post graduate employment, preferably in a clinical area applicable to mental health or ability possess the ability to acquire such knowledge. 
  • Desirable: Demonstrated clinical knowledge and understanding of mental health in relation to any of these areas: Child and Adolescent, Adult Community, Inpatient, Extended Treatment or Older Persons Mental Health Service.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the theoretical and practical application of a range of therapeutic interventions relevant to mental health consumers in an inpatient setting.

Details of appointment:

Permanent part time, day worker position, working 45.6 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $110,425 to $121,907 per annum pro rata. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

Allowances: 

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $119,290 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Degree in Social Work giving eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; or
  • Registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; or
  • Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable as determined by individual position requirements)

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change.
