Job description:

Join the Parks and Wildlife Service team and play an important role in responding to fire events and undertaking prescribed burning operations.

About the role

As a member of a team, the Fire Fighter will fight fires and perform other fire management tasks which include prescribed burning, clearing of vegetation, maintaining fire trails, firebreaks and waterholes. The Fire Fighter will also undertake the maintenance of firefighting and other equipment used in these tasks. When not required for fire management, the Fire Fighter will assist in other regional operations.

This is a permanent position based out of Lutana.

Hours per fortnight

76.0 hours per fortnight (minimum 60.8 hours, by negotiation).

Essential requirements

  • Successful completion of the firefighter fitness assessment at the ‘Arduous’ level (4.83 km walk carrying 20.5 kg in 45 minutes or less).
  • Minimum of 1000 hours firefighting experience.
  • Medium Rigid driver’s licence.
  • Remote Area First Aid.

Desirable requirements

  • Complete requirements for Certificate II - Public Safety (firefighting operations) – units specified in AWU (Tasmanian State Sector) Award 2009.
  • 6 units of Certificate III - Public Safety (firefighting operations) – units specified in AWU (Tasmanian State Sector) Award 2009.
