  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $124,322 to $138,494 + super (FTE)

 

About the role

Join the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and help protect and restore our state’s unique biodiversity. As a Senior Threatened Species Officer, you will plan, co-ordinate and lead the implementation of threatened species conservation projects across the Greater Sydney region. The role focuses on prioritising and delivering recovery actions that align with government policies and programs.

You will provide expert technical advice and contribute to conservation strategies and environmental impact assessments to support positive outcomes for threatened species and ecological communities. The role works across diverse land tenures and builds partnerships with stakeholders, land managers and communities to create effective on-ground conservation projects.

 

About You

We are looking for a passionate conservation professional with substantial experience in working with threatened species and ecological communities. You will bring strong scientific knowledge, proven problem‑solving skills, and the ability to translate environmental data into meaningful conservation action.

You have demonstrated experience planning and delivering projects, operating within procurement frameworks, conducting fieldwork, working with project partners and contractors, and meeting deadlines. You can work independently and collaboratively across diverse land tenures and community settings.

You’ll be confident navigating complex issues, communicating scientific concepts, and contributing to high-quality conservation planning and project delivery. Your excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills enable you to lead partnerships, educate the community, and influence positive conservation outcomes.

 

Essential Requirements

  • A science degree or a degree in a relevant natural resource discipline.
  • A valid Australian driver’s licence, with four-wheel drive experience and training preferable.
