The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Regulatory Policy & Practice Officer to join the EPA. In this role, you will contribute to the development, improvement and delivery of regulatory practice frameworks, operational policies, guidance and other tools across the EPA.

You will play an important role in supporting the EPA to regulate environmental matters in an effective, consistent and credible way, helping to strengthen regulatory practice and outcomes across the organisation. The role requires balancing legislative requirements, operational realities, stakeholder expectations and government priorities to produce guidance that is both legally sound and practical for frontline regulators.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Working understanding of regulatory practices and frameworks.
• Project management experience with the ability to analyse complex issues, build consensus across diverse stakeholders, and produce clear, practical guidance
• General understanding of environmental protection frameworks and their application within a government context.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail
• Well developed written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationship across teams and with community stakeholders
• Sound judgement, initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic operations environment

About the team

This role sits within the EPA’s Regulatory Practice and Services Division, which provides scientific and technical expertise, along with regulatory strategy, planning, and reporting to support effective environmental regulation, as well as incident and emergency response.

You will join a passionate, high-performing division with a strong track record in delivering regulatory practice, driving continuous improvement, and leading incident and emergency management and recovery. The team is united by a shared commitment to delivering meaningful environmental outcomes for the people of NSW.
