Position Department: Center for Outreach & Impact
Overview:
Campers will be studying Sport Communication, Theatre & Media Arts, International Business & Data Visualization, Lego Robotics, and Nursing & Biomedical Engineering. American high school students will be joined by Japanese high school students from Saitama, Japan, Pittsburgh's sister city. They will take part in the camp experiences together as well as field trips to Neville Island and a Pittsburgh Pirate game along with other social activities taking place on RMU's campus. Please note you will be staying on campus all week and residing in the dormitories.
Responsibilities:
• Engage with high school participants socially from both the United States and Japan during meal times, evening activities, experiential learning with faculty at RMU and field trip excursions • Facilitate team building activities, and evening activities and lead campus tours as requested during the scheduled week • Run check-in and check-out logistics, including wayfinding, collecting forms, and helping students with move-in/out • Live in an RMU campus dorm for the nights of June 21st – 28th 2024 • Support other activities as requested by the Camp Directors
Minimum Qualifications:
• Current or past RMU undergraduate or graduate student is given preference • Preference will be given to Engineering, Sports Communications, and Humanities majors. • Prior experience working with youth in a camp counselor, mentor or teacher role preferred • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in cross-cultural settings • Positive demeanor • Up-to-date child abuse clearance, FBI fingerprinting clearance, and criminal background check
