Overview:
Support at main library desk with materials check-outs, public service, shelf-reading, and support of other library functions and programs
Responsibilities:
Front desk duties include, but are not limited to: checking in and checking out all library materials using specialized library technologies; maintaining an exceptionally positive attitude toward library patrons; answering basic informational, directional, and library policy questions; assisting in technology trouble-shooting under the direction of part-time and full-time library staff and faculty; tallying usage statistics. Materials stack maintenance duties include: gathering, sorting, and shelving library materials; making sure materials are in proper call number or other order (shelf-reading); searching for missing books; reporting maintenance or security issues to library staff and/or supervisor; referring higher level questions and research needs to the librarian on duty. Additional projects as needed and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Exceptional patron service attitude; dependability, accuracy and attention to detail; ability to work well with others; ability to work at least two scheduled shifts per week (weekends and evening included); basic computer skills; ability to reach all shelves; excellent communication skills and practices, in-person, on the phone, and digitally; ability to push a full book cart and lift 15 pounds; courtesy; efficiency; must be willing to 'go the extra mile' for patron service. If unable to work an assigned shift, find an appropriate substitute and communicate with supervisor.
