JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut is seeking applications for the full-time position of Head Football Equipment Manager.

The applicant’s responsibilities are specific to the equipment area within the Football program and related facilities. This position will report to the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment Services and take directions from the Head Football Coach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and oversight, including supervision of a full-time assistant, student employees, and contracted vendors.
  • Manage ordering, receiving, inventory control, maintenance, and budget oversight for the Football Equipment Room.
  • Equip all Football student-athletes and staff for practices, competition, and team travel.
  • Ensure all protective equipment is properly fitted, maintained and compliant with NOCSAE standards.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Training staff to address injury-related and specialized protective equipment needs.
  • Research, evaluate and implement advancements in football equipment, safety technologies, and protective devices.
  • Maintain responsibility for all football field and training equipment.
  • Direct all equipment operations for home and away football games, including preparation, transportation, setup and breakdown.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Nike and non-Nike vendors to coordinate purchasing as needed.
  • Maintain accurate inventories utilizing a cloud-based inventory system.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA and FBS regulations related to equipment, branding, and trademarks.
  • Oversee Football related shipping and receiving operations and coordinate facility maintenance needs.
  • Participate in professional development to remain current on industry trends and compliance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Football program and athletic department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2 years full-time experience as an assistant equipment manager at a Power 4 (P4) FBS institution.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, including oversight of a student labor force of 15 or more individuals.
  • Athletic Equipment Manager’s Association (AEMA) certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of football equipment, apparel and proper fitting, use, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards related to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic proficiency with computer applications and technology used in equipment operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, teamwork and collaboration skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree.
  • Football equipment manager experience, including student experience.
  • Experience working at College Football Playoff games.
  • Experience working with Nike as a primary apparel and equipment vendor.
  • Experience setting up and managing the Coach Comm communication system.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position. Relocation assistance is not available. The incumbent must have the ability to work flexible and irregular hours including weekends and holidays.
