INTRODUCTION

UConn’s Facilities Operations Department has one job opening for a Duplicating Technician 1 position. This is a permanent, full-time position, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 37.5 hours per week with an unpaid half an hour for lunch. This position reports to the Manager of University Sign Services.  This position is categorized as “Open to the Public", however, current, qualified UConn NP-2 employees will be given preference in the hiring process. 

The salary for a current UConn NP-2 employee will be determined at the time of job offer based on the employee’s current job classification and step and is non-negotiable.  If the position is not filled by a qualified, UConn NP-2 employee, applications submitted by external applicants would then be considered and evaluated.

The hourly rate of pay is $22.91/hour; this pay rate is non-negotiable for those new to State Employment.

This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff.  Must be willing to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations.  Applicants must also be willing to work non-premium holidays. 

SELECTION PLAN

This position is categorized as “Open to the Public” however, current, qualified UConn NP-2 employees will be given preference in the hiring process. 

Applicants must possess and retain a current motor vehicle operator license throughout employment with the University.

Applicants are required to indicate on their application (under the Licenses and Professional Certification section of the application) their CT Driver’s License number, including the date issued and expiration date.  If selected for an interview a copy of the driver’s license will be requested.  Instructions for submitting the copy of the driver's license will be provided during the interview process.

A pre-employment physical will be required that will include a functional capacity exam; the job offer will be contingent upon the successful completion of the pre-employment physical.  The pre-employment physical will be a requirement for the UConn NP-2 candidate as well as any external candidate selected for the position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

At UConn, Duplicating Technician 1’s are required to utilize Xerox commercial scale printing systems, large volume cutting machines and various printed product finishing task devices.  This position may work with customers to assess, develop and design printing needs; providing high quality customer service is an important requirement of this job.  This position may also assist with the process workflow steps for customer requests, that includes, but is not limited to, product design, product invoicing and order close out.  This position is responsible for lifting and carrying printed materials weighing up to 40 lbs. and requires employees to be on their feet for significant periods of time throughout the 7.5-hour workday.   This position may supervise student employees.

  • Operates various types of duplicating and finishing equipment in the production of flyers, posters and brochures requiring basic layout and design;
  • Selects appropriate papers;
  • Prioritizes assignments;
  • Maintains and adjusts equipment to ensure proper paper feeding and copy quality;
  • Performs repairs on all equipment including auxiliary equipment;
  • Performs routine/daily cleaning of equipment including adding toner and greasing and oiling parts;
  • Performs recordkeeping and inventory;
  • Designs layouts of mechanicals;
  • May be required to maintain files and provide quality control for a variety of electronic items such as CD and DVD records;
  • May operate check processing equipment;
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate various automated duplicating and finishing equipment including basic layout and design;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

  • One (1) year of experience in the operation, adjustment and maintenance of automated duplicating equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
  2. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  3. Applicants must have a current motor vehicle operator license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with electronic customer-facing ordering systems.  (For example, online digital storefronts such as, or similar to, Ricoh MDSF – Managed Digital Storefront).
  2. Knowledge of common printing products and substrates including weights, finishes, sizes, etc.
  3. Ability to lift 40 lb. packages, mail trays, or similar containers.
  4. Ability to troubleshoot printing/processing equipment.
  5. Experience in processing sales transactions in electronic systems.
  6. Demonstrated customer service experience.
  7. Experience communicating effectively through both verbal and written methods.
  8. Considerable interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  9. Ability to multi-task.
  10. Supervisory ability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
  2. A pre-employment physical will be required that will include a functional capacity exam; the job offer will be contingent upon the successful completion of the pre-employment physical. The pre-employment physical will be a requirement for current UConn NP-2 employees and/or external candidates selected for the position.
  3. Incumbents must have adequate physical strength and agility to lift, carry and push material weighing up to 40 lbs.  Incumbents must also have the ability to use a pallet jack.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be required to lift moderate weight; may be exposed to noise and risk of injury from duplicating equipment.
