Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Senior Admissions Counselor is responsible for the oversight of Boise State programming and events. This position will assist and support Admission Counselors with overall event management and logistics to ensure they move projects from planning to completion.  Additionally they will create and evaluate surveys, reports and data to assess event effectiveness and distribute results to key stakeholders and staff to improve overall campus visitor experience.

This position is often the first point of contact with future students and families, which requires extensive knowledge of university staff, academic and student life programs, and policies, as well as a positive attitude and commitment to higher education. Additionally, the Senior Admissions Counselor position is also responsible for all primary Admissions Counselor responsibilities which could include, but is not limited to, promoting Boise State to prospective students and families through individual advising appointments, territory management, recruitment travel, communication, recruitment events, and presenting to small and large groups.

This position provides leadership in advancing Boise State’s enrollment goals by supervising Admissions Counselors and supporting data-informed recruitment strategies. The role collaborates closely with the Admissions Recruitment Team to plan and deliver high-quality events and recruitment efforts that support prospective students throughout the enrollment process.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Senior Admissions Counselor and Event Manager will perform:

Event Planning and Management

  • Review upcoming events with Assistant Directors and event leads to develop detailed timelines and task lists, ensuring seamless execution by prioritizing tasks, coordinating logistics, tracking progress from planning through implementation, and monitoring event planning milestones to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Monitor event registration trends and post-event surveys within Slate to adjust outreach strategies, improve attendance, and enhance the overall campus visitor experience.
  • Schedule, lead, and participate in post-event debrief meetings, collecting feedback from Admissions Counselors to inform future improvements.
  • Continuously review our CRM for improvements and ways to increase efficiencies, workflow and process improvements of the Recruitment team.
  • Utilize Slate CRM to create and maintain events in the system, including drafting/reviewing communication plans for visitors, creating and implementing email invitations, and updating Slate portals for registration.

Act as the Recruitment Team Communication Specialist

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Recruitment team and Student Communications & Marketing to align messaging, enhance outreach strategies, and ensure consistency across recruitment communications, events, and recruitment-driven initiatives.
  • Develop and implement targeted communication efforts within Slate to support recruitment initiatives and drive enrollment goals with customized outreach for different student populations (i.e., first-year students, transfer students, non-traditional students).
  • Create and edit presentation slides and design deliverables
  • Collaborate with the Communication team to develop and review marketing deliverables for events, including agendas, postcards, social media, and other promotional materials.
  • Remain current on University brand standards and ensure alignment in all Admissions communications.
  • Collaborate with Student Communications and Marketing to analyze event communication analytics and refine outreach strategies to improve engagement, registration, and show rates.

35% of Time the Senior Admissions Counselor and Event Manager will perform:

General Admissions Counselor Duties

  • Counsel, advise and maintain positive contact with prospective students and families regarding admission requirements, financial aid and scholarships, and campus life.
  • Analyze and evaluate prospective student needs, assess admissions criteria, determine appropriate resources, and tailor messages to fit unique situations.
  • Review and score holistic review applications
  • Present information sessions to campus visitors, providing insights on admissions, academic programs, and student life.
  • Be fully informed of Boise State admission policies and procedures and effectively communicate them to prospective students.
  • Promote Boise State to prospective students and families in order to meet enrollment goals set by the University.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community groups, high school contacts, parents, and Boise State student organizations and staff.
  • Represent Boise State at recruitment events, college fairs, high school and community college visits, and individual meetings.
  • Travel throughout Idaho and out-of-state recruitment territories, to be determined.

Manage Office Relationships

  • Effectively communicate university policies to staff, ensuring they can accurately articulate policies in communication and event planning.
  • Coach and mentor staff to assist with event management needs.
  • Coordinate work schedules to ensure adequate coverage that aligns with demand cycles. This includes collaborating with other supervisors in the unit to share projects based on priority and the level of need.
  • Serve as a point of contact for troubleshooting event-related issues within Slate, Wrike, and other planning tools.
  • Train and support internal and external stakeholders on the effective use of recruitment technology and tools, including Slate, Wrike, and event management resources.

Functional/Technical

  • Be a power user of PeopleSoft and CRM Slate in order to meet general Admission Counselor and communication needs.
  • Stay up to date on event planning and recruitment technologies (Slate, Qualtrics, Canva, Zoom, Wrike) to optimize system usage and enhance recruitment efforts.
  • Effectively use University data systems in order to provide high quality customer service
  • Remain current in knowledge and understanding of National Association for College Admission
  • Counseling (NACAC) best practices, and state of Idaho policies. Specific examples include: FERPA (Family Rights and Privacy Act) and State Board of Education policies.
  • Remain current on best practices in the delivery of service to prospective students and guests.
  • Remain current on enhancements made to existing technology and emerging technologies in those areas that impact job responsibilities.

5% of Time the Senior Admissions Counselor and Event Manager will perform:

  • Other duties as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability in providing quality customer service

  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and manage independent tasks
  • Ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to work in an automated environment
  • Previous experience with CRM tools (i.e. Slate preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (i.e. PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel)
  • Ability to understand and follow university and state guidelines
  • Knowledge of Boise State academic programs and student life areas
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

3 years of experience in a similar type of work in a Higher Education setting - Enrollment Services preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
