The Opportunity
The Senior Technical Officer plays a key leadership role in supporting the Director in the strategic management and operation of multidisciplinary teaching and research laboratories within the platform. The role is responsible for overseeing advanced technical operations, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of specialised laboratory instrumentation, and maintaining a safe, compliant, and high-performing laboratory environment.
The Senior Technical Officer provides high-level technical oversight, including troubleshooting complex analytical issues, optimising workflows, and implementing best-practice laboratory standards. Working collaboratively with the Director and technical team members, the position contributes to operational planning, quality assurance, and continuous improvement to ensure reliable, high-quality support for academic, research, and industry activities.
In addition to technical leadership, the role involves active engagement in research initiatives and providing high-level input on experimental design, methodology development, data quality assurance, and result interpretation. The Senior Technical Officer contributes to grant applications, publications, and collaborative projects aligned with the platform's strategic goals, supporting impactful outcomes in research, teaching, and translational innovation.
Reporting line: The position reports to the Director of MUM Proteomics & Metabolomics Platform
