Research Fellow
A Level B Postdoctoral Research Fellow is expected to make contributions to the research effort of the university, particularly at the postgraduate level and to carry out activities to develop her/his scholarly, research and/or professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline.
This position is based at Main Campus, Bandar Sunway
Reporting line: The position reports to Director of Research Excellence

Key responsibilities
- Research and Algorithm Development
Develop, implement, and optimize advanced deep learning and machine learning algorithms for analysing large-scale sensing data generated by fiber optic monitoring systems in railway environments.
- Data Analytics and Signal Processing
Process and analyse time-series and distributed sensing data (e.g., strain, vibration, temperature) captured by fiber optic sensors to extract meaningful features related to railway conditions.
- Anomaly Detection and Predictive Modelling
Design and implement anomaly detection models to identify early signs of abnormalities or faults in railway infrastructure and operations.
- Model Training and Optimization
Train, validate, and optimize deep learning models using real-world datasets, ensuring high accuracy, robustness, and computational efficiency.
- Integration with Sensing Systems
Work closely with the research team to integrate AI models with fiber optic sensing platforms for near real-time monitoring and decision support.
- Data Management and Experimentation
Manage large experimental datasets, conduct experiments, and evaluate algorithm performance through systematic benchmarking and validation.
- Research Dissemination
Prepare high-quality journal publications, conference papers, and technical reports related to railway monitoring, fibre optic sensing, and AI-driven anomaly detection.
- Collaboration with Research and Industry Partners
Collaborate with multidisciplinary researchers, engineers, and industry stakeholders involved in railway monitoring and intelligent infrastructure systems.
- Supervision and Mentoring
Assist in supervising postgraduate students and research assistants involved in the project.
Grant and Project Support
Contribute to the preparation of research proposals, project reports, and presentations to funding agencies and project partners.
