The Opportunity

We currently have an opening for an Animal Facility Manager to drive operations within a designated unit of the Monash Animal Research Platform. This role upholds the highest standards of animal welfare, compliance and research support through the consistent implementation of policies and procedures. It ensures smooth daily operations that provide high-quality animal care, suitable housing and dependable technical services in line with legislative requirements while supporting the broader biomedical research community.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a skilled team with strong technical expertise and a shared commitment to safe and ethical practice. It oversees quality assurance programs that enhance animal health, breeding performance, facility conditions and service delivery. The role prioritises safety by guiding hazard identification, incident response and continuous improvement while ensuring efficient resource use and effective management of staffing levels. Through collaboration with MARP managers and participation in audits and inspections, the position supports transparent reporting and robust governance.

We are seeking someone with a Diploma of Applied Science in Animal Technology and relevant experience along with strong operational management capability within a biomedical or animal research setting. The position also draws on well-developed leadership skills practical expertise in research animal techniques and a thorough understanding of regulatory instruments and safe work procedures.
