Driving Positive Change: Senior Social Worker, Adult Mental Health Acute

This is an exciting opportunity to provide Senior Social Work expertise to support Mental Health Inpatients to receive high quality care. This role will also provide support and leadership to the Social Work team and to the multi-disciplinary team in an Adult Acute Mental Health inpatient setting. You will be able to have an opportunity to not only use and develop your senior clinical skills, you will also be able to ensure social work clinicians in your team can work to their full scope.  You will support integrated care, support ongoing training/development and support clinical governance in the areas of extended-length-of-stay, and quality patient care.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Margaret Tobin Centre Nurse Unit Manager & Principal Social Worker, this role will be involved in  delivery of a range of high-quality clinical activities, including mental health and psychosocial assessments, risk assessments, treatment and care planning, therapeutic interventions, consultation, education, advocacy and liaison with community service providers and other stakeholders while providing services to patients admitted to acute inpatient Mental Health wards and their families/carers. Duties for the role will include:

  • Conducting psycho-social assessments and intervening with complex patients admitted to Margaret Tobin Centre, MH short stay unit, or Morier using a range of well-developed therapeutic social work skills, 
  • Delivering high quality Social Work supervision to AHP1 and AHP2 Social Workers,
  • Engaging and liaising with external organisations on social work issues to ensure appropriate patient care is delivered across the continuum of care,
  • Providing leadership, consultancy and advice to management and other health professionals on social work services

About you:

  • Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian association of Social Workers, 
  • Advanced skills in undertaking a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment including risk assessments of consumers presenting with high or complex needs, 
  • Clinical skills appropriate to the area of individual counselling, group work, family therapy, and focused psychosocial strategies, 
  • Extensive experience working with patients and families as a social worker in a specialty area within the acute/sub acute/mental health care setting
