About you

The successful applicant will ideally have experience working in the heritage regulatory space, with proficiency under the NSW Heritage Act 1977, the National Parks & Wildlife Act 1974, and Environmental Planning & Assessments Act 1979 for Major Project referral processes. You must exhibit strong communication skills and be confident liaising with diverse stakeholder groups at all levels, including the Heritage Council of NSW and its committees. You will be committed to delivering results, meeting statutory timeframes, delivering quality outcomes as a team, with excellent customer service throughout. You will be required to work collaboratively across Heritage NSW, maintain strong relationships across government agencies, the development industry, and other key stakeholders such as the Department of Planning, Housing & Infrastructure (DPHI). You will bring a collaborative approach to information sharing and effective management of key applications, including assistance managing the pipeline and triaging of applications, and making determinations where relevant. The ability to manage multiple competing priorities whilst delivering within strict statutory timeframes is essential.

 

About the role

As Manager Assessments, Major Projects community of practice’s primary role is to provide advice to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, including comments on Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARS), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Response to Submission (RTS), modifications and post approvals. The team supports provision of pre-lodgement services, assessing development proposals, preparing advice on Aboriginal Cultural Heritage (ACH) and Environmental Heritage (EH) to both DPHI and proponents. The role is fast-paced, deadline driven, and requires close engagement with a highly effective team. A key skill is the maintaining of proponent and government agency relationships and delivering technically excellent advice to shape optimum heritage outcomes for key NSW heritage places.

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge and experience in heritage and planning processes, customer service or relevant field.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal culture and communities, and legislative protections.
