Position Summary/Job Duties:

Reports to: Education Manager 

Schedule: Part-time, hourly position: 5-10 hours weekly. Required availability of 2+ days per week-afternoons between 1:30-7:30 pm M-F during the school year or 11:00-3:30pm Saturdays.

The mission of the Monroe Street Arts Center is to engage a community of learners in exploring the arts and developing the creative self.

  • MSAC curriculum plan and management provide structure and support for creation of lesson plans.
  • Instructors are allowed 2 paid hours per each camp for lesson planning.
  • Freedom to create lesson plans at Monroe Street Arts Center or offsite.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create and implement lesson plans. Lesson plans must be tailored to the age group and class topic and MSAC’s curriculum plan.
  • Bring project examples each week.
  • Encourage creativity and self-expression among participants by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Offer encouragement and positive reinforcement to boost confidence and enthusiasm.
  • Set-Up and Clean-Up: Prepare art materials and set up the designated activity area before the start of each class.  Assist in cleaning up the area and storing materials after each class.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in responding to the needs and preferences of students. Tailor art activities to accommodate varying skill levels, interests, and themes.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with students and grown ups. Address any questions, concerns, or special requests in a prompt and courteous manner.

  • A passion for art and working with young children.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creativity and ability to think on your feet to adapt to the needs and interests of varying ages.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Previous experience working with children or in an art-related setting is a plus.
