About the role
As a member of the Learning Innovation team in the Faculty of Arts and Education and Deakin’s teaching and learning support division, Deakin Learning Futures (DLF), the Learning Designer role focuses on the design of learning activities and programs of study across units and courses to build towards achievement of graduate learning outcomes. It is a collaborative multidisciplinary activity that engages with a range of discipline-based academics to design and develop engaging accessible and inclusive course and unit curriculum, constructively aligned learning outcomes, assessment tasks and feedback opportunities and practices. The role may also require collaborating with digital learning technologists and multimedia specialists.
As a Learning Designer, you will:
- Guide teaching teams to develop and expand their teaching and assessment practice to support diverse cohorts of students to succeed in their learning.
- Utilise and advise on learning design principles and practices to plan and develop engaging accessible and inclusive learning materials and activities in collaboration with teaching teams.
- Design authentic, accessible and inclusive assessment tasks in collaboration with teaching teams that promote student engagement, evidence learning outcomes and develop evaluative judgement.
- Actively seek feedback from supervisors, team members and faculty colleagues to support effective learning design practices and self-development.
- Draw on co-design and innovation principles to analyse and adapt current work processes and practices in collaboration with team members and diverse colleagues across the Faculty and University.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Relevant qualifications and/or extensive experience in technical or administrative fields, including specialist knowledge, management expertise, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of current evidence base and standards in learning design and Australian higher education qualification frameworks.
- Experience designing appropriate methods and materials for teaching, learning and assessing across complex and diverse disciplinary areas.
- Knowledge of how students learn in digital, face to face and blended environments to support teaching, learning and assessment across multiple modalities.
- Experience in designing learning resources using a learning management system, particularly Brightspace, and other contemporary digital learning technologies.
