The Job:
The Senior Manager, Master Data Management (MDM), will be a pivotal part of establishing MDM practices and strategy and be part of our ambitious vision for data and analytics at Deakin. This role will be responsible for leading a new team with the focus of ensuring master data is accurate, consistent, and accessible, while driving data-driven decisions across the business. Some of the core responsibilities and capabilities include:
- Data Management Expertise: Develop and build Deakin’s MDM practice and strategy to ensure data integrity, consistency, and accessibility across the organisation. Drive improvements in MDM practices using data analytics to enhance data quality and business intelligence.
- Strategic Alignment: Align MDM initiatives with business goals to drive data as a strategic asset for decision-making and innovation. Ensure compliance with data governance standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR) across MDM processes.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with stakeholders to meet data management objectives. Mentor team members and foster continuous learning to build a high-performing MDM team.
- Change Management: Manage change and adapt MDM practices to evolving business needs and technologies.
- Effective Communication: Translate complex MDM concepts to technical and business teams, communicating value and impact clearly.
- Problem-Solving & Risk Management: Identify and resolve data challenges proactively, mitigating risks to master data integrity.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive experience Data Management or related roles
- Demonstrated experience developing and aligning information/data/MDM strategy to drive business goals
- A proactive problem-solving approach to address data issues and mitigate data integrity risks
- Knowledge and expertise in MDM and/or or data catalogue tools (e.g. Informatica, SAP, Alation)
- Expertise in data governance, security, and data modelling
- Experience managing projects, people and budgeting
- Experience in building and leading high-performing teams
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
- A commitment to developing team capabilities and fostering continuous learning
- A deep understanding of regulatory requirements and master-data best practices in a large complex organisation
- A flexible and adaptable approach. Respond quickly to changing business priorities and emerging technologies, adjusting strategies to support evolving needs and challenges
