Make a meaningful impact in Deakin’s Infrastructure & Digital division during an exciting period of transformation within the University. This key leadership position is pivotal in driving efforts to identify, analyse, and respond to cybersecurity threats that could impact Deakin. This role focuses on gathering and interpreting threat intelligence, monitoring for emerging cyber threats, and implementing proactive defensive measures to mitigate risks effectively.

As a senior leader, this role influences others to achieve outcomes aligned with university strategies and goals, driving change to improve operational policies, practices and methods.

With a customer-centric approach, the Senior Manager is dedicated to enhancing the customer experience by integrating physical and digital infrastructure, projects, and services to deliver seamless, impactful solutions tailored to stakeholder needs. The role ensures all improvements align with both divisional and university strategic objectives, balancing innovation with sustainable, long-term goals.

Reporting to the Director, Cyber Security Operations, the Senior Manager provides expert advice and recommendations on cybersecurity threat intelligence practices to senior leaders, shaping Deakin’s proactive approach to emerging cyber challenges.  

 

As a Senior Manager, Cyber Security Threat Intelligence, you will:

  • Oversee the collection of threat intelligence from internal and external sources and lead the analysis of collected data to identify trends, emerging threats, and vulnerabilities. Maintain relationships with government agencies, industry groups, and third-party vendors to obtain actionable intelligence and share information on cyber threats.
  • Lead proactive threat-hunting initiatives to detect and eliminate threats, use advanced analysis techniques to uncover potential risks. Develop and test hypotheses about potential threats based on gathered intelligence, past incidents, and knowledge of adversarial tactics.
  • Consult a diverse range of stakeholders and collaborate with cybersecurity architects, engineers, and other teams to ensure threat intelligence is integrated into security solutions and architecture.
  • Produce and present threat reports to senior management, teams, and stakeholders, providing insights into risks and recommended mitigation strategies.
  • Understand environmental trends and stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures and adapt defence strategies to address these evolving threats.

 

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience protecting large complex organisations by staying ahead of threats, understanding adversarial tactics, and providing critical insights to defend against cyberattacks.
  • A Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) certification is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Sentinel and its application in threat intelligence and defence strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams focused on threat hunting, including designing detection rules, developing hypotheses, and implementing threat-hunting strategies.
  • Hands-on experience in proactive threat hunting, with knowledge of advanced analysis techniques to identify and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
  • Hands-on experience with vulnerability management and running bug bounty programs.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across teams to design, deliver and manage security technologies and practices to protect an organization's IT infrastructure, data, and applications.
  • Knowledge of contemporary cybersecurity threats, practices, and management, with experience overseeing technical security initiatives to ensure the security of networks and systems.
