About the role
As trusted advisors and collaborative partners, the Finance and Assurance function provides a range of services to all parts of the university to drive financial sustainability and provide expert advice and compliance assurance to support delivery of the University Strategy and operational activities.
The Head of Contract Governance brings extensive and specialist knowledge of their area of expertise and an understanding of the complexities of the higher education environment. The role is recognised as a principal specialist in contract governance and leads and motivates a team of professionals to collaborate and deliver outstanding advice and services to our customers. The role leads the enhancement of practices and methodology in contract governance and recommends solutions to more complex university-wide issues.
In this key leadership role, you will:
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of skilled professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Provide guidance and support to team members in delivering strategic initiatives, ensuring their growth and development.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with Deakin’s goals and future needs. Establish and maintain a robust framework for managing all stages of contract lifecycle and ensure all contracts are securely stored and maintained allowing easy access and reference for relevant stakeholders.
- Partner with senior leaders and ensure all contracts comply with relevant Australian laws and regulations and university policies. Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with contracts and ensure appropriate risk management strategies are in place. Create, update, and enforce policies and procedures related to contract governance, ensuring consistency across the university.
- Partner with senior leaders to ensure all major contracts align with the university’s strategic objectives and develop long-term strategies for contract governance.
- Develop and implement strategies to maintain standard contract templates and guidelines to streamline the contracting process, ensuring legal and operational consistency. Work closely with internal stakeholders, to ensure contracts meet their specific requirements.
To be successful, you’ll bring
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with appointment
- Extensive experience conceptualising, developing and implementing contemporary contract governance solutions, strategies and services to achieve a large organisation’s objectives.
- A sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary contract governance discipline practices.
- Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain strong and productive relationships with internal and external partners and customers.
- Proven ability to exercise judgement, influence others, be flexible and adaptive to environmental changes and priorities, and gain support for new plans, programs or initiatives.
