Deakin’s Research Business Development and Commercialisation division (BD&C) is a key function within the University’s Research and Innovation portfolio, establishing partnerships with industry, government other public and private sector organisations and our community; and positioning Deakin as a leader in research translation. Dedicated to developing partnerships, business development, the division is responsible for steering the strategic vision and positing Deakin as a partner of choice, connecting researchers with opportunities and managing external engagement. The team also bring innovative solutions to market through commercialising Deakin’s intellectual property and supporting entrepreneurs through our Spark program. BD&C key areas within the division are Deakin’s Recycling and Clean Energy Commercialisation Hub (REACH) Trailblazer, Business Development, Intellectual Property, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship. REACH is Deakin’s Trailblazer Universities Program and is focused on supporting industry to accelerate the commercialisation of their technology in the clean energy and recycling space by leveraging research capability at Australian Higher Education Providers.
The role will work as part of a team in establishing a value driven Program and Project Management Office (PMO) function to drive and support successful delivery of the REACH Program.
Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, REACH Industry and Research, the Program Manager will:
- Undertake strategic project planning, including the provision of expert project management advice and assistance to senior leaders, key stakeholders and other program staff within REACH
- Lead, monitor, and report on the development and execution of detailed project plans for all phases of the program life-cycle, ensuring projects are aligned to program goals and are delivered on time, within scope and budget
- Promote teamwork and provide tailored mentoring and coaching to enable individuals to deliver high quality solutions and the achievement of project goals
- Actively engage and enable collaboration across teams and with a diverse range of stakeholders to negotiate inclusive and accessible solutions and achieve project goals
- Analyse complex problems, identify root causes, weigh up options to identify accessible and inclusive solutions and translate complex issues into clear and understandable project goals and targets
- Contribute to the evolution of systems and procedures to measure and review project performance and prepare and monitor project schedules and resources to monitor, track and provide progress status reports, and manage changes as they arise
- Plan and implement detailed project plans including planning for and managing project risks and issues, dependencies and identifying mitigations providing projects the best opportunity of succeeding within agreed time, scope and budget parameters
- Develop and provide the necessary documentation and reporting to support the management and coordination of the program and/or project
- Actively promote and drive participation using broad influencing skills to gain support and overcome barriers and gain stakeholder support, and generate enthusiasm about REACH and the projects within the program, by keeping stakeholders informed and engaged
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
- Extensive experience and management expertise; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Demonstrated experience in a program and/or project management role using a variety of methodologies, tools and practices
- Demonstrated experience to manage and contribute to multiple projects concurrently
- Experience in Business Process and Organisational Improvement project/program management in complex organisations
