Job Description

Virginia Tech's Advancement Division is adding to its human resources team. The Talent Acquisition Specialist will play an important role in building a successful world-class faculty and staff population. You will have a direct impact on the talent acquisition process and play a significant role in creating the future of Virginia Tech. This role will execute a comprehensive recruitment strategy to attract and source candidates for a wide range of Advancement positions. Working with hiring managers, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will assist in the full life cycle of sourcing and selecting candidates, developing marketing approaches, recruitment pipelines and selection strategies. Expectations are to develop and manage a talent pool of both passive and active candidates in order to fill positions by building community and educational partnerships, attending meetups, job fairs, professional conferences and other networking events, and designing innovative approaches to recruitment such as high volume, specialized and niche hiring. This position is ideal for a strategic thinker who thrives on identifying solutions, building processes and delivering results. The Talent Acquisition Specialist will partner with hiring managers and the broader human resources team to ensure a positive onboarding experience for our employees ensuring success of the institution, division, department, and employees’ goal in the process.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in human resources, business, or related field; or Bachelor's degree with experience equating to an advanced degree.

Prior recruiting experience and expertise leveraging recruiting tools to attract passive candidates for recruiting purposes.

Experience interpreting policies, procedures and other documentation to deliver results.

Experience using applicant tracking systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong problem solving, interpersonal and negotiation skill.

Strong writing and proofreading skills.

Preferred Qualifications

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or related certification.

Experience working and recruiting in higher education, executive search firm, fundraising department, human resources, or related field.

Knowledge of advancement services, fundraising, annual giving, marketing and communications, alumni engagement, donor relations, innovation and partnerships, and how to use that knowledge to recruit positions.

Understanding of the legal, operational and strategic issues related to talent acquisition in a niche field.

Knowledge of current job markets and trends.

Knowledge and application of candidate sourcing techniques such as networking and cold calling to attract national talent.
