Mater Pharmacy is now seeking Intern Pharmacists for 2026 to develop skills across multiple disciplines of clinical hospital pharmacy practice as well as retail pharmacy.

Mater Health, South East Queensland comprises a unique collection of two public and four private hospitals at South Brisbane, Redland and Springfield caring for over 700,000 patients each year including the Mater Mothers Hospital, a premier women’s health facility and Queensland’s largest maternity care provider having over 10,000 births per year.

In addition to clinical pharmacy services for patients of Mater Health, we provide traditional community pharmacy medicines and retail products to patients, visitors and staff.

About the role:

This role will enable you to deliver a consistent base level of clinical pharmacy service under the supervision of registered Pharmacists, to provide patients, carers and other health professionals with support and information relating to medication. You will work as a member of one or more multidisciplinary teams to ensure the safe, effective and quality use of medicines and optimise patient outcomes while developing the knowledge and skills to complete requirements for registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.

You will have the opportunity to gain broad experience in community pharmacy and clinical services including:

  • general adult surgical & medical wards
  • neurosciences
  • obstetrics & gynaecology
  • neonatal critical care
  • intensive care
  • cardiology
  • haematology & oncology
  • paediatrics & adolescent health
  • mental health services
  • sterile production and compounding
  • medicines information services

What you will be doing:  

  • Develop clinical practice knowledge and expertise through active learning within the pharmacy team and by engaging in professional development activities to advance competency and skill level.
  • Participate in quality and service improvement activities including the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within the Pharmacy service with the view to improving service delivery to all pharmacy customers.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively within the pharmacy team and during participation in multidisciplinary ward rounds to assist the supervising Registered Pharmacist to provide clinical care, medicines information and advice to assist in patient medication management.

Salary: $79,050.54 per annum plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

To be successful in this role you must:  

Progress to completion of a Bachelor or Master of Pharmacy Degree in 2025 from a recognised tertiary institute and be eligible for registration as a Pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) after 48 weeks supervised practice.

  • have good organisational and time management skills
  • Prior work experience in pharmacy will be highly regarded.
