The Opportunity

Monash University, Australia’s leader in human-centred computing, is seeking a passionate and innovative Research Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team in the Department of Human-Centred Computing (HCC). As a Level B Research Fellow, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our work on the Reliable Affordable and Clean Energy (RACE) Cooperative Research Centre project, contributing to Scenarios for Future Living.

HCC is at the forefront of research that connects technology with society, including areas such as information systems, interaction design, advanced visualisation, digital ethnography, learning analytics, and IT for social impact. As a Research Fellow, you will engage in cutting-edge ethnographic research with households across Australia, exploring how they experience and interact with innovative energy products and services within "living lab" environments. Your research will directly contribute to the development of technologies and solutions that make a positive social impact, aligned with the vision of sustainable innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in ethnographic research, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across three universities and industry partners.
  • Review literature and industry reports, while incorporating anthropological and sociological theories into your research.
  • Contribute to the development of accessible research outputs, including reports, videos, photography, public scholarship, and academic publications.
  • Collaborate with the research team to ensure high-quality, impactful research aligned with the RACE CRC project goals.
  • Opportunity for co-supervision of PhD candidates, fostering the next generation of researchers.

What We Offer:

  • Join a vibrant, collaborative research environment, supported by world-class academics and researchers.
  • Opportunity to engage with socially responsible, world-changing research that prioritises human-centred solutions.
  • A diverse and inclusive work culture that actively supports gender equity, diversity, and innovation.

Monash University is committed to diversity, equality, and fairness, and we encourage applications from all qualified candidates, including women in STEMM.
