The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking a strategic, ethical, and experienced leader to take on the role of Director, Student Conduct and Complaints. This senior role is critical to upholding the integrity, quality, and fairness of the student experience across the University.
Reporting to the University Registrar, you will lead a highly specialised team responsible for the management of student general and academic misconduct, formal appeals, complex complaints, and remission of debt reviews. You will act as the Responsible Officer for General Misconduct and as the University's Complaints Officer — leading impartial investigations, safeguarding procedural fairness, and supporting the wellbeing of our students and community.
As a strategic leader, you’ll build strong partnerships across the University and work closely with stakeholders including the Office of General Counsel, Safer Community Unit, Faculties, and Senior Executive to ensure regulatory compliance, risk management and continuous process improvement.
About You
We are looking for a values-driven, strategic leader with a deep commitment to fairness, integrity, and the student experience. With extensive experience managing complex complaints, misconduct processes, and high-stakes decision-making, you bring sound judgement, empathy, and resilience to every aspect of your work.
Your leadership style is collaborative and empowering. You have a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams in environments requiring discretion, impartiality, and compliance with regulatory and legal frameworks. You are skilled in mentoring and developing staff, managing performance, and fostering a culture of professionalism, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
You will bring to the role:
- A postgraduate qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
- Substantial leadership experience in student conduct, regulatory compliance, complaints resolution or administrative decision-making within a complex organisation
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policy, drive strategic initiatives, and lead change in alignment with institutional goals
- Superior decision-making capabilities with a strong grounding in procedural fairness, risk management, and stakeholder engagement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-level reports and communicate sensitively and effectively across diverse audiences
Your ability to engage with senior stakeholders, lead with purpose, and contribute to the University’s culture of inclusion, respect, and integrity will be key to your success in this role.
Experience in the higher education sector and familiarity with university governance, academic integrity frameworks or student conduct policy is highly desirable.
