Position Summary:

This position is sustaining engineering support for aerospace sustainment technology including vehicle, ground support equipment, and aircraft maintenance. Under the leadership of a senior engineer, this role will support research, evaluation, reverse engineering, design, and test/validation of hardware and processes for support equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate will: Interface with client hardware owners and teams to identify and document support equipment and vehicle end items, components, and processes in support of lifecycle management (LCM) activities and service life extension programs (SLEP). Work with client hardware engineers to ensure documentation and product conformance with engineering design intent and performance requirements. Design and optimize mechanical components for either traditional or additive manufacturing (i.e. housings, brackets, structural supports, vehicle parts and aerospace hardware) and mechanical systems, in accordance with current and applicable GD&T standards. Create and execute component and system level validation and qualification test plans, as well as analysis of test data and results, ensuring connections to an Authoritative Source of Truth. The work will primarily support government customers, but some commercial sector clients may be supported by this position as well.

Minimum Qualifications:

- BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering / Engineering Technology
- Ability to create, read, and interpret models, technical drawings, schematics, and computer generated reports
- Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling software
- Working knowledge in Excel, Word, and other MS Office Suite programs
- Attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Development and management of bills of materials (1 + parts)
- Experience with creating and executing component and system level validation and qualification test plans
- Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

- 1+ years engineering/technical product design, hardware ownership experience with working knowledge of GD&T standards
- 1+ years developing military equipment product specifications
- 1+ years project management experience
- 1+ years experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Systems Engineering certificate or Masters degree in Systems Engineering
- Prior involvement with projects on government contracts
- Experience analyzing government acquisition/sustainment data and processes to identify trends and the Authoritative Source of Truth
- Understanding of Air Force Digital Material Management principles and how they are being applied across organizations
- 2+ years engineering/technical experience supporting vehicles or military support equipment
- 1+ years experience with part optimization and quality improvement
- Previous work experience at University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) in a sustaining engineering role
- Familiar with various manufacturing processes such as casting, NC machining, forging, heat treat, and additive manufacturing for metals and/or plastics
- Self motivated & organized with ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated successful collaboration within a multi disciplinary team
- Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills
