This role ensures that our solutions not only align with organisational goals, industry standards, and best practices, while leveraging cloud technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.
You will be responsible for looking after a team of dedicated technologists and assist in guiding our Software Engineering practice through this transformation, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality. At the same time, you will oversee the management and rationalisation of existing applications, ensuring they are appropriately maintained, consolidated where possible, or transitioned to cloud-based solutions in alignment with the university’s digital strategy—all while maintaining a strong focus on operational excellence.
As a Manager, Software Engineering (Cloud), you will:
- Guide, manage, and coach a team of dedicated software engineers, providing direction, support, and mentorship to achieve team, project, and personal growth objectives.
- Oversee the development and implementation of software solutions, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, technical requirements, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with the architecture team and other technical teams to define enterprise architecture patterns relevant to our domain.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools to drive innovation, improve service delivery, and enhance operational excellence.
- Assess technical risk, developing and implementing mitigation strategies, ensuring high quality standards are met by all members of the software engineering team.
- Assist the team in applying cloud migration strategies, ensuring a smooth transition while aligning with the university’s cloud-first approach.
- Oversee the consolidation and rationalisation of existing software applications, ensuring continued support and alignment with strategic objectives.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Strong coaching and people management skills, with the ability to mentor, educate, and develop team members to achieve team and personal goals.
- Providing technical leadership and participate in solutions for complex projects.
- Extensive experience troubleshooting and optimizing complex software environments.
- Experience in cloud platforms, primarily Azure, with AWS and GCP experience beneficial.
- Proven success in cloud migrations and a strong understanding of cloud application architecture, services, and best practices.
- The ability to work at a high level, providing strategic advice, while also being able to get into the detail and work hands-on with the tools.
