The College of Innovation and Design invites applications for an assistant/associate clinical professor of User Experience Design, in the newly formed School for the Digital Future, effective Fall 2024. We are seeking a colleague who has a keen understanding of human-centered UX theory and methodology to take an important role in the development of our UX Design (UXD) program, bring energy and expertise to a community of highly motivated students, and work with colleagues to support the School for the Digital Future.

Essential Functions: 

  • Serve as lead instructor for UXD certificate courses
  • Provide direction and drive development of the UXD Certificate program
  • Maintain and update program curriculum to reflect industry standards
  • Provide advising, mentoring, and administrative support to students
  • Manage program budget, enrollment, and post-graduate outcomes
  • Hire, mentor, support, and supervise adjunct instructors
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the School for the Digital Future on committees, curriculum development, and other school-building activities

The major responsibility of the clinical faculty involves teaching students in both academic and clinical settings, supervising clinical experiences, and engaging in professionally related community service (60%). While they may, they are not required to participate in research or scholarship activities as part of their regular assignment. The essential duties and responsibilities of clinical faculty are assigned by the academic Department Chair or equivalent administrator.

Administrative Responsibilities (30%): The role includes administrative duties, such as coordinating departmental activities, managing projects, overseeing program development, or other related tasks essential to the operational efficiency of the organization.

Service Responsibilities (10%): The candidate will be expected to contribute to service activities, which may include serving on committees, participating in community outreach, and other related tasks that support the organization's mission and goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Experience and knowledge in UX methodologies and Human-Centered Design
  • Proficiency with UX industry tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Mural)
  • Familiarity with Inclusive Design and Accessibility practices
  • Working knowledge of synchronous learning tools such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides
  • Highly motivated and self-directed individual with a strong commitment to teaching
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and networking skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across groups and disciplines

Minimum qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field
  • 5+ years experience in UX design, product design, or equivalent experience
  • Some teaching experience

Applicants for the Associate Clinical Professor rank should have demonstrated record of teaching and educational background.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Terminal clinical/practical degree in a relevant field
  • 5+ years of teaching experience
  • A portfolio of UX or product design work
  • Competency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard)
  • Experience in UI for web-based, mobile, or wearable devices
  • Enhance learning relevance by sharing your own professional experiences and industry insights with the students

Salary and Benefits:

Salary starts at $70,000 commensurate with experience. This will be a 9 or 12 month position.

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
