Job Summary/Basic Function:

Lead, supervise and work with HVAC Technicians to perform journeyman-level installation and maintenance of HVAC Systems.

This position is open to current, regular Boise State employees only.

Level Scope:

Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or campus policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Essential Functions:

● Lead assigned personnel in the performance of work.
● Assure adherence to safety rules and precautions by assigned personnel.
● Develop preliminary cost estimates for installation and repair.
● Develop methods and procedures to be followed by assigned personnel.
● Assist with hiring and training staff.
● Schedules and adjusts workload and evaluates performance.
● Journeyman HVAC/R Specialist shall have the skill set and experience to install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems ranging from 1 to 750-ton equipment including refrigeration, combustion, and electrical components of the system.
● Monitors HVAC systems and operations, and ensures that routine preventive maintenance is performed according to established schedules and standards.
● Responds to hot and cold calls, then troubleshoot and resolve issues.
● Checks, repairs and/or replaces valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes and other functional components of the system.
● Services Roof Top Package, Split Systems, Heat Pumps, Air/Water Cooled Chillers, cooling towers, refrigeration and water and air distribution systems
● Operate and repair HVAC control systems including Siemens, JCI, Automated Logic, Watt Master, Phoenix Valves, Laboratory Support Systems, Fume Hoods, Exhaust Systems, Compressed Air Systems, and Vacuum Systems
● Performs all work by established safety procedures.
● Inspects completed work for conformance with local building and safety code requirements.
● Requisitions of HVAC supplies and equipment.
● Verify and implement preventive maintenance standards on all HVAC distribution equipment.
● Document all work in the CMS system (Computerized Maintenance System)
● Enforces all Boise State University safety and risk management policies and procedures; reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner and identifies and corrects unsafe work conditions with management oversight.
● Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
● Participates in the “On-Call” rotation
● May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

● Some positions require a current HVAC journeyman license.
● Ability to monitor/assess the performance of other individuals, or groups to make improvements or take corrective actions.
● Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
● Ability to: Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds. Climb ladders, bend, stoop, work in awkward positions for several hours at a time, and crawl through small tunnels that are hot, muddy, and wet. Work during inclement weather.
● This work involves lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, climbing and working from ladders, and bending and stooping.

Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of: supervisory practices.

Good knowledge of: HVAC operations.

Required Licenses: HVAC Journeyman Licensing, Universal EPA-CFC license, AND Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

● BAS experience – fluency in JCI Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Automated Logic WebCTRL.
● 10 or more years of related work experience.
● High Tonnage Experience: Commercial and industrial applications for HVAC/R.

Salary and Benefits:
 
Salary of $33.31-$33.39/hr.
