North Idaho College invites applications for an Assistant Professor - Public Services Librarian to join Molstead Library on our lakeside campus. This faculty role blends leadership, outreach, and hands-on public services to support student success, teaching, and learning across the college.
In this position, you’ll lead library outreach and engagement efforts, including signature events and campus partnerships, and coordinate rotating art displays that reflect the diversity of our community. You’ll guide collection development by creating and implementing policies, managing acquisition budgets, working with vendors, and ensuring library resources align with academic programs and research needs. You’ll collaborate with faculty on course reserves, technology needs, and research support, provide in-depth reference services and instruction, and maintain research guides. The role also includes supervising circulation staff, participating in library leadership and planning, supporting learning commons initiatives, and staying current with copyright requirements and evolving library practices.
We’re looking for a collaborative, service-oriented librarian with strong skills in outreach, collection development, and academic reference. The ideal candidate brings knowledge of integrated library systems, interlibrary loan processes, budgeting, and vendor management, along with current awareness of copyright, open educational resources, and digital technologies. Strong communication, project management, and relationship-building skills are essential, as is a commitment to equity, access, and student-centered service in a community college environment. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or MLS) from an American Library Association accredited institution required. A minimum of one year of full-time equivalent library experience , including outreach, collection development, and reference experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement library outreach activities and academic community engagement efforts
• Knowledge of and experience with collection development
• Strong skills using Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and Interlibrary loan (ILL) systems and processes
• Current knowledge of copyright, fair use, and/or open licensing needs in a college setting
• Current knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER) and other no/low-cost course material options
• Knowledge of budgeting standards and processes for a department
• Knowledge of current developments in librarianship and library management
• Ability to provide engaging and high-quality reference services
• Proficient skills in project management, multi-tasking, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated knowledge of current digital technologies
• Knowledge of systems, specific to the needs of the department (i.e. Alma, Primo, OCLC)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient skills in using Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including phone, copier, printer
Starting pay range: $58,207 - $80,787
This position is 111% FTE
