About the Role
The Principal Engineering Lead supports the development of Suncorp’s cross‑platform engineering capability and guides transformation across our Digital Insurer portfolio. You will work with talented engineering, architecture, and delivery teams to uplift maturity, strengthen decision quality, and enable scalable, secure, and customer‑focused solutions. This role shapes how our workforce evolves into a truly cross‑functional, flexible engineering community.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the evolution of cross‑functional engineering capability across multiple platforms, enabling teams to work effectively across domains and improving overall engineering maturity.
- Guide technical decision‑making during pre‑delivery phases, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with Suncorp’s wider technology direction.
- Collaborate with Architecture, Engineering Practice Leads, and strategic partners to uplift engineering standards, patterns, and frameworks.
- Identify systemic engineering risks, capability gaps, or integration challenges and deliver clear strategies to resolve them.
- Support the development of engineers and principal engineers through coaching, fostering a culture of learning, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to evolving Suncorp’s engineering operating model, ensuring vendors and internal teams work to consistent expectations and quality standards.
What You’ll Bring
- 5-8+ years’ experience in technology leadership roles, with significant experience providing technical leadership across complex, multi-platform environments.
- Background as an engineer, tech lead, or technical analyst, with a strong understanding of modern engineering practices, software delivery lifecycle, and how to apply guardrails to ensure secure, scalable engineering outcomes.
- Proven ability to work within transformation programs or newly established functions, ideally having contributed to building new capabilities or operating models.
- Capability to uplift cross‑platform engineering maturity, enabling a flexible workforce that can contribute across domains.
- Experience guiding engineering quality, influencing architectural alignment, and partnering with vendors and strategic partners.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and support teams through change.
