Working to protect the state’s environment and heritage
Help support the further development of our asset management capability in the Northern Inland Branch of NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service! This is a great opportunity to join a highly committed team supporting the conservation and protection of the environment.
About the role
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is seeking an energetic Asset Officer to support strategic management of existing and future assets across our fixed and mobile asset portfolios. Working in the Branch Assets & Infrastructure Team, this role will provide exposure to state-wide priorities where you’ll apply your experience in asset management frameworks and systems including program supervision, coordination and data management. On a day-to-day basis you’ll be responsible for a wide range of asset administration tasks, including accurate documentation of requests, acquisitions, receipts, installations, in-life verifications and disposal of assets, ensuring records are accurate and auditable.
From time to time this role may require you to undertake project management work including planning, procurement, contractor management and onsite inductions, although not a key function of the position. The role will involve occasional travel (fully supported) to remote locations and towns within the Northern Inland Branch, an incredibly diverse branch that encompasses approximately 23% of the state, stretching from the eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range to the semi-arid floodplains of the Cuttaburra Creek Darling River in the west. Once you see a North-West sunset you never forget it!
About you
To be successful in the role, you’ll be comfortable leading the use and development of the NPWS Asset Management System (MyWorkZone) to improve the quality of data and consistent use in Northern Inland Branch or have the ability to quickly develop a good working knowledge of this system. You’ll play a key role in supporting Branch & Area staff to use the AMS while also prioritising, identifying, and implementing asset renewal, maintenance, and decommissioning priorities through whole of life planning. The position requires a good balance of data analysis and communication skills to improve the data integrity within the AMS and building strong working relationships with Branch & Area staff.
Essential requirements
- Demonstrated experience in asset management frameworks and systems including program supervision, coordination and data management.
- Demonstrated experience liaising with and coordinating staff or contractors undertaking asset maintenance and construction activities.
- Knowledge of and experience in the application of construction codes, safe work practices and risk management in the construction and maintenance of facilities and infrastructure.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial reporting requirements for capital projects as well as an understanding of risk management principles as they apply to maintenance and construction of infrastructure and assets.
- Understanding of the legislation applying to protected area management, contract management, Workplace Health and Safety, construction standards and environmental planning.
- A current Australian drivers licence.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience managing assets within a natural resource setting or the public sector.
