Our Safety Team is looking for a Utility Safety Specialist to help serve our Transmission Service Teams and support our office employees. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating contractor safety performance. Your key responsibilities will include conducting field safety evaluations, tracking contractor incidents, and responding as necessary to ensure compliance.

You will review the written contractor safety program and safety scorecard criteria, as well as coordinate and host the monthly and annual Contractor Safety Meeting. Effective communication of observation trends and providing recommendations to the Safety Manager will be essential. You will also verify the timely implementation of corrective and preventive safety actions by contractors, assessing their effectiveness.

You will be trusted to:

- Monitor, review, evaluate, and report on contractor safety performance.
- Maintain the contractor safety management system and oversee the contractor safety program
- Review and update the contractor safety performance and metrics, ensuring clear communication of safety requirements
- Apply a comprehensive understanding of industry safety regulations and company policies
- Develop metrics for contractor safety observations and report trends
- Participate in contractor orientations, roundtables, and regional meetings
- Oversee contractor safety and provide Safety & Health insights
- Plan and host the monthly and annual Contractor Safety meeting
- Assist in the onboarding, ongoing support, and offboarding of contractors.
- Travel may be required, including overnight stays
- Maintain a valid state driver’s license with a good driving record to operate company vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and company policies
- Perform incident investigations, including documentation, tracking, and reporting
- Perform work by traveling independently or with other staff to various locations (substations, power plants, Right of Ways, water systems, etc.) as scheduled

You qualify with:

- Six or more years of experience in energy generation, electric utility transmission and distribution operations, or relevant experience. Experience must include one or more years of experience with OSHA 1910.269 Electric Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution and applicable electric utility work practices and safety policies. A degree(s) in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, health and safety, or utility related field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
- Driver’s License

You are a great fit with:

- Prior experience in an electric utility contractor safety training or compliance role including providing guidance, leadership or formal/informal instruction to operational staff.
- ASP, CSP, GSP, SMS, OHST, CSM, CUSP, or CSHO preferred
- Proficient knowledge of regulatory reporting and recordkeeping (OSHA, ANSI, EPA, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication, including optimally communicating information to large audiences
- Experience using office productivity applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc..)
- Knowledge of Safety Management Systems; Intelex preferred
- Skills in incident investigations and knowledgeable of incident investigation methods and techniques
- Knowledge of work environment safety hazards and materials and tools used in assigned areas
- Ability to set priorities, complete tasks, work independently and proactively and collaboratively in a cross-functional team
