About the office of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation:
The Department of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation at California State University, Fullerton is committed to guiding prospective students and their families through the information-seeking and enrollment process for both the California State University system and Cal State Fullerton. We provide essential in-person and virtual tailored support services to facilitate a seamless transition to college, including admissions requirements, CSU application workshops, campus tours, and new student orientation. Our personalized assistance aims to promote access to higher education, foster a diverse and inclusive community, and provide a foundation for student success.

About the Customer Service Student Assistant Position:
The Customer Service Student Assistant plays a key role in supporting the daily operations and orientation sessions that welcome new Titans to Cal State Fullerton. This position provides hands-on assistance with Orientation sessions, including event check-in, preparation, and attendee support. Customer Service Student Assistant helps new students navigate the VisualZen Orientation platform, provides accurate information about CSUF and ORO programs, and ensures a positive and inclusive experience for all participants.
In addition to event support, this role involves general office responsibilities, including communications, assisting with projects, and maintaining professionalism in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Overall, this position offers an opportunity to develop leadership and customer service skills while serving as a positive representative of the ORO department and Cal State Fullerton.
Position Responsibilities:
Assist with daily operations of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation;
Assist with event check-in, session preparation, late check-in, and other event needs during Orientation sessions;
Assist new students with signing up and navigating their Orientation reservation and Orientation Checklist through VisualZen platform;
Assist staff and students by providing accurate information regarding Orientation and CSUF by using sound judgement to make appropriate referrals;
Be familiar with the programs, services, policies, and procedures of ORO;
Make effective use of work time and work successfully in an open office environment and at events;
Serve as a communication link and department representative between students, staff, and visitors;
Take initiative in suggesting and assisting with projects that might contribute to improving operations and procedures;
Keep all matters confidential to ORO staff;
Support all Orientation customer service operations including but not limited to emails, phone calls, internal and external communications, and event attendee support;
Maintain professionalism and quality when handling Orientation events supplies and technology;
Assist Staff with responding appropriately to questions, requests, and concerns of current, admitted and prospective students and supporters;
Be receptive and sensitive to students and supporters when approached for assistance;
Refer problems or potential problems to a supervisor;
Be reliable, punctual, responsible, flexible, a team player, and demonstrate strong communication skills;
Uphold values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion;
Serve as a positive and professional representative of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation, and Cal State Fullerton;
Staff Summer Orientation 2026;
Staff Welcome Week 2026;
Staff Spring Orientation 2027;
Staff Spring Welcome 2027;
Attend all scheduled training days, session prep days, session days, and other team meetings;
Collaborate effectively with other ORO student staff and professional staff;
Adhere to all student staff expectations as outlined in the ORO student handbook;
Complete and adhere to all required trainings required by the University;
Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

Matriculated CSUF undergraduate student enrolled in a full-time academic degree program
Enrolled in 5 units or less during the summer term. Students enrolled in more than 5 units during the summer will be automatically ineligible for the Orientation Leader position
GPA of 2.5 or greater during the Spring 2025 semester
Good judicial standing with the Office of Student Conduct
Able to attend all required dates listed above
Passion for fostering a team atmosphere and peer success
Strong values for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict
Ability to meet deadlines, work in a fast-paced environment, problem-solve creatively, collaborate with other student leaders and professional staff
Be able to communicate and interact positively and effectively with staff, students, and supporters in all aspects including emails, phone calls, and in-person scenarios.
Possess sound judgement and strong organizational skills
Possess the ability to function autonomously
Be able to accurately type at least 40 words per minute
Be familiar with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook; Google applications such as Drive, Sheets, Docs; be familiar with data entry, calendaring, filing and telephone reception
Have served at least one previous summer as an Orientation Leader at CSUF

Position Time Commitments:
Anticipate 30 - 40 hours per week throughout the summer term.

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
